there are a million garden projects
conceived in the dead
of winter
big projects
glorious projects
glamorous projects
sprouting in the mind
like
daffodils on the edge
of spring
fences and new cement
walkways to weave
and meander through
the side yard
gorgeous gardens filled with
hyacinths and chrysanthemums
grass, green and thick,
damp and deep
new garages and screened in
porches and cobblestone patios
and new baby trees mingled
with wisdom of their
elders
grape vines overtaking fences
and vegetable gardens and
hammocks and warmth and
shade and sun
all that is clearly
visible
under the crusted
mantle of
inexorable
February snow.
